Anime Review: Yuri!!! On Ice (2016)

I'm starting a new 'series' where I review some anime because I know it can be difficult to find good ones so I hope I am helpful. I wish i had read more anime reviews before watching certain ones because they were just awful.

The first one I am going to be reviewing is Yuri On Ice, a new favorite that came out last year and that everyone seems to love.

Not being sporty at all, i started watching this anime with very low expectations because I didn't think it would interest me at all. I was right. Well to begin with I was anyway. I decided to watch the dubbed version of this which I don't normally do but I wanted to watch it in the background while I did some 'work'. It wasn't the best dub i've ever seen to be honest.

I didn't think I was ever gonna get into this anime so after watching the first two episodes last year, I stopped. For some reason, a few weeks ago, I had some coursework for Graphics to do and I thought watching this anime again in the background would be something to do while 'doing' my work. I was so wrong. I don't know if it's because the thought of doing work was so much worse than watching a tv show that I thought I wasn't interested in, but somehow I found myself pushing my work aside to watch it.

I binged through the rest of the 12 episodes in 2 or 3 days. I actually found myself getting upset when it ended and craving more ice skating from Yuri and Victor. I thought, yeah that anime was enjoyable, but why do people like it so much? As you do when you've finished watching something you liked, I began to think about the anime and how I wanted to see more and suddenly I understood the hype behind the people who had also watched it. Being someone who's is mostly into 90's anime, it felt nice to be part of something more popular and recent and I can't wait for the Yuri on Ice movie (and possibly season 2!)

Overall I would give this anime 4/5 stars
