Anime Review: Sailor Moon (1992)

ah yes, the iconic.

If you grew up in the 90's, you've probably seen this show regardless of if you watch anime now. I, however didn't grow up in the 90's so I decided to watch it all a lot more recently. This is the first anime show I ever started watching.

I only finished watching Sailor Moon a few months ago because it does drag on a bit (through 200 repetitive episodes) and while I wouldn't change it for the world, there are a lot of things I don't quite like so much about it .

The first bad thing is how repetitive it is (as I said above) The middle parts of all the seasons usually involve the same things each episode but with a new target , which can be very tedious to binge watch. Along with this, the transformation sequences take up a lot of the time in the episodes.

Another thing that will forever annoy me about Sailor Moon is the English/western dub. OH MY GOD it is beyond terrible. Not only are the characters voices beyond unrealistic (especially Chibi-Usa- or whatever they changed her name to) but they never dubbed the final (and best, in my opinion) season, sailor stars. Also, WHY ON EARTH DID THEY THINK IT WAS COOL TO MAKE MICHIRU AND HARUKA COUSINS. Like was it really that unbelievable at the time that two girls could be lovers? It's not like they ever even kissed in the original Japanese version anyway. You can probably guess that I never watched the whole thing in dubbed form- I couldn't bring myself to. But I have seen enough episodes from it to make a good judgement.

Keeping on the negative side of things, I personally really don't like the character of Chibi-Usa as I find her really annoying which I hate because I really want to like her, but I don't. However, in the Sailor Moon Crystal remake, I found her character much more enjoyable to watch and actually didn't mind her.

All that aside, this anime is really quite great. I love pretty much every character although I found Ami hard to relate to as she was constantly talking about school work. I love everything else about this anime and if you haven't, you should definitley check it out.
